KNOWLEDGE OF THE USE OF JARAK SAP IN REDUCING TOOTHACHE IN THE COMMUNITY OF TANTUHA VILLAGE, ACEH BESAR DISTRICT

Abstract

Pain is a symptom of physical and spiritual disturbance. There are two treatment options, namely traditional and modern medicine. According to data, the prevalence of caries in Indonesia is 88.8%. Different toothache conditions create knowledge about toothache and create a culture attached to the treatment process. Castor bean sap is a medicinal plant that can reduce toothache. Castor sap has an analgesic effect similar to paracetamol for toothache and can also reduce toothache. To determine the relationship between knowledge of the use of castor sap and reducing toothache in the community in Tantuha village, Simpang Tiga District, Aceh Besar Regency. This research is analytical. Conducted in Tantuha village, Aceh Besar from 14 to 15 June 2024. The research population was all 75 people aged 45-64 years. The sample in the research used purposive sampling technique, namely a sample of 39 people. The instrument used was a questionnaire sheet using an interview. Data analysis used the chi square statistical test. Results: research shows that knowledge of the use of jatropha gum is in the good category, indicating that there are efforts to reduce toothache for 19 respondents (70.4%). Meanwhile, poor knowledge in the none category reduced toothache by 10 respondents (83.3%), with a value of p=0.002. Based on the results of statistical tests, it shows that there is a significant relationship between knowledge of using castor sap and reducing toothache. Suggestion: it is hoped that the people of Tantuha village will not use jatropha sap excessively, and use castor sap only as a temporary aid to reduce toothache
