PECS MEDIA ON KNOWLEDGE ABOUT DENTAL AND MOUTH HEALTH OF THE DEAF AT SLB YAYASAN BAHAGIA TASIKMALAYA CITY

Background: PECS is a medium that combines in-depth knowledge of speech therapy with understanding communication where students are less able to interpret words, and lack of understanding in communicating. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of counseling using PECS on increasing dental and oral health knowledge for people with hearing impairment. Methods: The type of research used was quasi experimental design with a research plan, namely one group pretest and posttest design on a sample of 20 deaf people in junior high and high school classes, namely giving questionnaires before and after being given counseling Results: Before the counseling was carried out, most of the children had less knowledge as much as 90%, after being given counseling with PECS media, most of the children's knowledge increased to good. Using the Wilcoxon test with the p-value < 0.005 Conclusion: There is an effect of counseling using PECS media on knowledge of dental and oral health for people with hearing impairment in SLB Yayasan Bahagia Tasikmalaya City from the criteria of less to good.Downloads
