Abstract

Dental and mouth health play an important role for body health, unfortunately Periodontal diseases such as periodontitis and gingivitis have a high prevalence whether in national also global scope, including Indonesia. A study in Central Java showed 44.75 % of participants experienced periodontitis with severe prevalence reaching 20 %. This condition affects the quality of life, as found in PKK group in Semarang where majority people whom experienced periodontitis also have poor quality of life.  Mouthwash mixture made by rosella and green tea is known to be effective for inhibiting the growth of microorganism causing dental plaque. This study aims in evaluating the level of panelists’ acceptance of the mouthwash formula containing rosella tea and green tea. This study is employed a cross-sectional design survey method and involving 75 study samples as selected by purposive sampling. The result showed that mouthwash formula (the mixture of rosella tea and green tea) was known to be effective in inhibiting the growth of microorganism causing dental plaque. Formula 4, which is a mixture of rosella tea and green tea received the best acceptance level with the highest percentage found in taste, color and acidity. However, the result of the hedonic test showed that formula 4 still at the neutral limit (with an average of acceptance score was less than 3.5). Therefore, further development is needed to make this formula can be well accepted for long-term use
